MVC endorsements for Roseville (ISD 623) School Board

The Maplewood Voters Coalition has endorsed five candidates for Roseville (ISD 623) School Board. Six candidates will survive the September 11 primary. From our Voters Guide:

Incumbent Ring promotes a school system organized to serve the common good. Return his experience and his focus on quality education for all children to leadership on the school board.

Ms. Edstrom's extensive experience on the boards of community organizations positions her to guard the line between the School Board and the district's professional administration. Her business perspective is a key component of an effective board.

Ms. Dion's training in psychology and skill with conflict resolution are assets to a board committed to consensus decision-making. She lets the situation provide information for the problem solving process without a preconceived outcome.

First class schools need first class science and math programs for which Dr. Martin is a first class advocate. Extensive citizen committee experience grounds his preparation for School Board service.

Mr. Anderson is enthusiastically committed to representing all district residents as well as support, administrative, and professional staff with a proven track record on citizen committees. His agenda is focused on the process of involving all perspectives in district policy making.

Candidates May, Kelsey, and Kline did not participate in the MVC endorsement process. From their public statements, it is apparent that candidates Kysylyczyn, Bahnemann, Machyowsky, and Olson are using this School Board election to advance a personal agenda.

MVC endorsements for Maplewood City Council

The Maplewood Voters Coalition has endorsed candidates Rossbach, Nephew, Llanas, and Dykes for Maplewood City Council. Our Voters Guide has this to say:

Incumbent Rossbach will use his in-depth knowledge of the city to guide a coherent 'green' approach to managing redevelopment and restoring a commitment to our parks and other public lands. Return his leadership to the council.

Look to John Nephew for specific proposals on improving city governance and creating an administration that works for the whole city and the whole council. His concise and analytical style are sure to make council meetings worth attending as he applies his year-long study of the city to the issues we face.

Mr. Llanas aims to represent and engage the whole city in its governance. We have come to know that when he says he will listen and consider each voice he means it. Public service to current and future residents is at the core of his agenda.

Mr. Dykes proposes to make the citizens the driving force in defining solutions to Maplewood's needs. His many years of experience in public employment offering frequent interaction with the Minneapolis City Council give him a clear understanding of the importance of process and professionalism.

We also think candidate Meehan has a bright future in municipal public service:
Mr. Meehan's long experience and in-depth knowledge make him an effective advocate for public safety and the future of the Maplewood Police Department. As he gains recognition and support in the wider community, we expect to stand behind him in future opportunities for public service.

Good luck to all!
